Zero the Hero

To celebrate Zero the Hero, we read the story,
played a zero pair memory game



creating circular art
and watching cheesy zero videos while enjoying a zero-shaped treat!

From the Math Department...

This morning, students worked in teams, using popsicle sticks to solve problems.
Some were quite challenging!

Reading Celebration!

This afternoon students celebrated how many books they read this year!

Math Fun!

This morning in Math we played the game Q-Bitz Extreme.
Team have sixteen cubes that have to be placed in a certain order to replicate the given design. It's a race to see who can complete it first!






Poetry Party!

Students gathered the poetry they wrote throughout the year into their very own Poetry Anthology! It was fun to reread poems from earlier in the year!

Escape Box!

Working together in small teams, and together as a class, students managed to break open the Escape Box full of treats! Well done!

We had a great time at Rainbow Stage watching Strike! the Musical!

We even got the chance to ask the actors questions after the show.

Here's what we're up to this week:

Monday: Field Trip to Rainbow Stage

Tuesday: Learning about and playing with integers, French Reader's Theater, practicing12th Night,  Early dismissal

Wednesday: Q-Bitz competition, Escape Box, High School Musical Jr. performance

Thursday: Silly Grossout Day!, 12th Night Run-through, Poetry Party!

Friday: Final locker clean-out, Q-Bitz Extreme competition, National Indigenous Peoples Day, 12th Night Performances for grade 6 classes and parents at 3 p.m., Reading Celebration!

Reminders for Field Trip!

On Monday, we are off to Rainbow Stage to see Strike! The Musical.

We will be leaving school around 10 a.m. and returning by 3 p.m.

Students should remember to bring an allergen-free bag lunch, which they will eat during the play or at intermission. 

Students should also be dressed appropriately for the weather as, although we will be covered from rain, we will not be shielded from the heat, cold, wind or insects.

Science Spectacular!

In Science today it was the Paper Airplane Challenge, tournament-style!



En francais...

In French we have been learning about comic strips.
Each student rewrote the dialogue to an existing comic strip.
Quel beau travail!

Shakespeare's Alive!

Room 209 is pleased to present their version of 
Shakespeare's Twelfth Night 
on Friday, June 21st. 

Every student has a role in the play and we have been working very hard to prepare for our presentations. We'll be performing for the four other grade 6 classes!

Parents are invited to attend our performance at 3 p.m.

Field Trip!

Grade 6 students have
 the incredible opportunity
 to attend the Rainbow Stage production
of Strike! The Musical
 on Monday, June 17th.

Please read the informational letter, sign and return the permission form (by Thursday, June 13th) and pay $19.75 through School Cash Online.


This Week in 209

Here's what we'll be working on this week:

Mathematiques: multiplying decimal numbers, calculating perimeter and area

Francais: critical thinking with comic strips, journal writing, CFOO presentations

English Language Arts: practicing our version of 12th Night, listening and viewing

Sciences de la nature:  learning about the four forces of flight and their effects

Sciences humaines: learning about the legacy of Residential Schools

CFOO!

In Français, it's time for our LAST CFOO (Le Club Fabuleux des Orateurs et Oratrices)! 
This is a public speaking "club" that will help students improve their oral French skills through short speeches.
For this last time around, students can choose any one of the presentation options that they have not already presented. They will prepare their short oral presentation, fulfilling all of the criteria (listed on the page they have in their binder).
Students should also keep in mind eye contact, volume and expression during their presentation.


The CFOO Presentations will take place on 
Tuesday, June 11th, Wednesday, June 12th and Thursday, June 13th.

From the Science Department...

Today we tested flying prototypes using straws, different types of paper and tape.
